Value(able) Lesson

My best friend's son is a merchant marine, travelling the world on a ship like this. So, I named this picture Tynan after him.

This ship is sailing through the Puget Sound just off Shilshole under heavy cloud cover. I used the flat light as a lesson in values. My first attempt at contrasting the values of sky and land seemed to flatten the picture. I deepened the sea and brightened the lower clouds to capture the moody depth.
